2009 Marshall County 4-H Round Up
The Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s Marshall County 4-H Program held its Annual County 4-H Round-Up on April 22, 2009 at the Guntersville Recreation Center; 4-H members, their parents, siblings and teachers, along with more than 60 volunteers were in attendance. More than 280 participants completed 332 projects for the event. 4-H’ers diligently work all year to be eligible to compete at County Round-Up. During the day youth were also able to participate in activities at the Mobile Dairy Classroom Unit which is provided by the Southwest Dairy Farmers.
A community service project was held to help celebrate Earth Day during Round-Up which included the collection of more than $65 dollars to go towards the purchase of a Tree to be planted by the Marshall County Master Gardeners at Hospice of Marshall County Sheppard’s Cove.
A Great Big “THANK YOU” goes out to all of our Superintendents, Principals, Teachers, 4-H Leaders and Volunteers, along with our Sponsors for the day: Marshall County United Way, Marshall County Farmers Federation, Guntersville Parks & Recreation, Marshall County Poultry Producers, Pilgrim’s Pride, Snead Ag Supply, and Marshall County R.S.V.P. Without EACH and EVERY one of you, this day would not have been made possible.
First place winners in each category advance on to Regional Congress on May 30, 2009 at the Sparkman Civic Center in Hartselle, Alabama where they will compete against 4-H’ers in 10 additional North Alabama Counties. Senior Level Winners at Regional Congress advance on to State Congress to be held in June at the University of Montevallo.
The annual 4-H Club of the Year award went to Grassy Elementary 5th grade Club. 4-H Officer of the year went to Brooke Pesnell of Arab High School, and 4-H Leader of the Year went to Mrs. Julie Livingston of Union Grove Elementary.
